How can we provide a single hub where a jobseeker is able to automate the repetitious portions of applications while also reinventing themselves professionally?

This process should be simple, require as little information from the user as possible, and be accessible for those who are less technologically-inclined than others.

challenge

My first step was to understand the pain points of WorkReady’s competitors and find areas that I could expand upon or condense. I researched existing examples of resume creators like zety.com, teal.com, and resume.io.

I conducted user interviews with current jobseekers and used broad surveys to learn more about what areas these people wanted to automate and how they used existing job readiness platforms. They revealed that they either didn’t use job readiness sites at all, or typically sought out reconstruction through chatgpt. Of all the steps in the job application process, they wanted to automate resume experience bullet points and cover letters.

As the lead designer for WorkReady, a cutting-edge resume and cover letter crafting platform driven by artificial intelligence, I spent 3 months shaping its digital presence and brand identity. Tasked with orchestrating a user-centric experience from inception to completion, my primary objective was to create an interface that seamlessly guided users through the process, ensuring clarity, efficiency, and efficacy. By prioritizing straightforward navigation, intelligible prompts, and informative feedback, I facilitated a frictionless pathway for users to traverse. A core component of this was the user dashboard, a nexus of tools where all of WorkReady’s features were laid out in an organized and digestible view.

Based on team and user feedback, the goal of the job spy engine was to remain as familiar and in-line with standard job boards as possible. I used a very non-abrasive column layout for the company and their job listing while adding the listing details to the right so that a user would never need to navigate away from their current search screen in order to interact with the post.

The WorkReady platform is still in development, though the site architecture and experience saw positive reception via user surveys and testing. During my 3 month contract I learned much about the way a user navigates a page for the first time versus my previous expectations. First impressions for a tool such as this were critical considering the range of resume building competitors. Though many design elements were already in place, such as the company name and color pallet, this was my first time working with brand identity from inception to finalization.

outcome

giving the user the ability to have a conversational quiz or discussion based on their desired role was essential, so I structured this tool to appear like chatgpt or a text conversation. The user would be able to click a topic or quiz based on their input job listing and WorkReady’s AI would provide relevant questions.

The challenge of the resume builder was guiding the user smoothly through the process of hitting all necessary marks while also providing opportunities for differentiation, which come in the flavor of certifications and projects instead of work experience.
